London Kurdish Film Festival 2015

The ninth London Kurdish Film Festival kicks off on Friday, with a comprehensive programme of features, short films and documentaries.

The festival will open with a screening of Iraq's Oscar submission for 2016, Shawkat Amin Korki’s “Memories On Stone”. Eight other films, including the award winning “Song of My Mother” by Erol Mintaş, will tackle subjects as diverse as religion in the region, incarceration, family and the recent struggles of Kurdish people.

A highlight among the 11 documentaries submitted to the festival is Hope, which throws the spotlight on four Kurdish female activists, notably Sakine Cansız who was shot dead in Paris in 2013.

Ten short films will compete for the 5th Yilmaz Güney prize, with submissions from all four corners of Kurdistan.

The festival runs from the 13th - 20th November at the Hackney Picturehouse. For more information and tickets, visit http://www.lkff.co.uk/
